Course Description

Beginning teachers can earn an NCCAT Beginning Teacher Badge by completing all 4 sessions in the series.  In this session participants will complete days 1-4 combined. Day 1 focuses on the importance of building professional relationships with all stakeholders as well as strategies for developing appropriate connections with students, maintaining meaningful dialogue with parents, fostering a positive rapport with school staff and community members, and facilitating supportive interactions between students in the classroom. Day 2 will empower teachers to analyze their current classroom management practices and build their skill set to create a flexible and supportive learning environment. Teachers will explore strategies for organization, time management, and consistent implementation of classroom procedures and routines. Day three will provide opportunities for teachers to utilize instructional resources to create meaningful lessons. Teachers will learn how to create learning targets, performance tasks and success criteria for learning sequences and utilize assessments to determine next steps for instruction. Day four will provide teachers with ways to motivate and engage students in the learning process. Beginning teachers will learn a variety of active learning strategies, including technology tools and brain-based instructional approaches. Throughout the badge series, teachers will build their professional toolbox by learning from the experiences of their peers, as well as build a collaborative network of beginning teachers from across the state.
