Course Description

This NCCAT program is sponsored by NCDPI and is intended for 6-12 social studies and English teachers who are teaching or who anticipate teaching the new state-level Holocaust elective. Over two and a half days, educators will become active learners training on appropriate methods and strategies for teaching this new elective in both social studies and English classes. Sessions will include understanding the intent of the objectives and how to use the unpacking supports, learning the importance of best practices in Holocaust education such as balancing perpetrator-heavy histories with victim-centered perspectives, and exploring the complexities of trauma-informed pedagogy. Educators will leave this program with a new level of confidence and skill in teaching about the Holocaust and genocide today.
